Co-operative Bank has partnered with Fanaka Real Estate in a deal aimed at helping Kenyans move from just buying land to actually developing on it.

Under the partnership, Fanaka Real Estate will provide the land opportunities while Co-op Bank will provide financing for eligible buyers looking to purchase land and build residential or commercial property on it.

The partnership was announced on Friday, the 18th of September 2026, with Co-op Bank Head of Mortgage Finance Fridah Mitei saying the bank's financing capacity and nationwide reach would support customers looking to acquire and develop property.

Fanaka CEO Moses Muriithi said the arrangement is intended to help buyers go beyond simply owning a plot and have somewhere to build a home or other development.

Fanaka currently has projects in areas including Mombasa Road, Thika Road, Kangundo Road, Kitengela, Kenyatta Road, Ngong and Kikuyu.

For buyers, combining the land and financing sides of the transaction could make the process more straightforward, particularly for those who have struggled with the gap between purchasing a plot and raising enough money to start construction.

Co-op Bank also targets estate agents

The partnership comes as Co-op Bank increases its engagement with the real estate industry.

The bank was recently the main sponsor of an Estate Agents Registration Board (EARB) CEOs Forum at Safari Park Hotel, which brought together more than 200 real estate agents.

The bank says it used the forum to showcase financial solutions and mortgage products for property acquisition.

EARB is the regulatory body for estate agency in Kenya and requires estate agents to be registered and licensed to practise.

For Co-op Bank, the two developments point to a wider focus on the property sector, from working with estate agents to financing buyers and developers.

For prospective buyers, the Fanaka partnership means the conversation is no longer just about where to buy land, but also how to finance what comes next.
